When You Say "I Am
a Christian"
--by Carol Wimmer--(Adapted)
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You're not shouting,
"I am saved!"
You are whispering,
"I was lost;
That is why I chose
this way."
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You can't speak of
that with pride.
You're confessing that
you stumble
And you need Him as
your Guide.
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You're not trying to
be strong,
But professing that
you're weak,
And pray for strength
to carry on.
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You're not bragging
of success.
But admitting that
you've failed
And you cannot pay
the debt.
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You're not claiming
"I am perfect."
Your flaws are all
too visible,
But God believes you're
worth it.
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You'll still feel the
sting of pain
And have your share
of heartaches,
Which is why you speak
His name.
When you say, "I am
a Christian,"
You are not allowed
to judge.
You say, "Father forgive
them,"
'Cause you know that
you are loved.
